about

"A Love Supreme" is Sapropelic Pycnic's (Ka Baird's) second release and the debut release from Chicago's No Index (www.noindexrecordings.com) label. The album was written in tribute to John Coltrane’s "A Love Supreme" and to celebrate its 50 year anniversary.

On the opening track, “Elation Elegance Exaltation” Baird sings from the poem written by Coltrane included in his liner notes on "A Love Supreme" as lyrical inspiration while the saxaphones of Taralie Peterson intertwine around her. On the second track, Baird covers Gil Scott Heron's “And Then He Wrote Meditations” written in tribute to Coltrane and his piece "A Love Supreme" accompanied only by her piano and flute creating a sparse but intensely emotional channeling of his sentiments. And on the last track she is joined by Andy Ortmann (modular synth), Troy Schafer (violin/keyboard) and Peterson on saxophone on the epic interpretation of “A Love Supreme”.
